One of the conclusions by Abbott et.al., that this is the "...first observation of a binary black hole merger" implies that said black holes were detected or observed directly. But I couldn't find any information about the black holes in their paper other than theoretical considerations to explain the possible cause for the gravitational waves. Where are these merging black holes? Do they know which black holes caused GW150914? Thanks.
